Henry James The Complete Novels eBook Henry James
For a lot of readers, this might be James's "sweet spot" -- fully mature and completely masterly in his handling of subtle and complex emotional and psychological states and social circumstances, but not quite as challenging to read as in his later work. Some of the stories here are well-known -- "The Death of the Lion," "The Middle Years," "The Figure in the Carpet," "The Turn of the Screw," "The Real Thing," e.g. -- but some of the lesser-known stories ("The Next Time," a comedy about a literary failure who keeps chasing a popular readership but turns out unpopular masterpiece after unpopular masterpiece, e.g.) are real gems as well.Product details

Henry James The Complete Novels eBook Henry James Reviews
Book was practically new! Thanks so much.
Great collection!
Too May Typos!
It's a great deal, $2 for the complete novels, but I found three typos in an hour of reading, so I'll pay a little more for less annoyance
If you are looking for a complete collection of James' work you will be happy with THIS book!
if you like the english language used with masterful technique this may be for you. Not bubble gum for the mind.
I like the used library editions best because you can mark the "notes" pages for quick translations with the satin ribbon as you go along. As for our Mr. James, who doesn't love him? Every elegant word, every paragraph throughout each story is filled with revelations on the Human species and the delicacy of life itself. We win sometimes and lose sometimes, but Henry goes far beyond the surface traveling deep into the motivation and unconscious of his characters with miraculous insight. His insight into the boundless elements within the human character is perhaps what led his brother into ground breaking medical/psychiatric insights as well, talents within the James family that suggest such brilliance has genetic roots.
I'm in the fourth book of his short stories, working my way happily toward the fifth and final. But with Henry James, there is no final chapter because when you finish the five, it is irresistible that you return to the first, and then your favorites and of course, his novels, during which you get to savor and thrill all over again to his magnificent arrangement of words, his mind and his unique style.
It took me six months to read the Complete Works of Henry James, a marathon, but I am going to miss him in my life. Almost every day, the dogs and I would curl up with a spot of tea and gently immerse ourselves into another age where the gentry concerned thenselves with touring the continent, gossiping about how much one had a year, spending weekends in the country and plotting handsome matches. Fluff and frivolous though it may have seemed, I adored James' slow and very intellectual dissection of problems facing our heroes and heroines as they left their calling cards at homes of friends, dined so very properly, reserved boxes at the theatre and danced the night away in swirling gowns all the while fanning themselves so decorously. Yes, I miss Henry James and his lovely cast of characters already.
