Kate is an obsessive compulsive woman with a cooking show. She screams when the paper towels don’t tear off straight, somehow gets chocolate to explode, and basically wreaks havoc in the kitchen. She’s funny and sarcastic, and viewers love her. But this is no act Think “Monk” with female hormone issues, wielding a frying pan. Underneath that crazy exterior is, okay, more craziness. Kate compulsively paints out graffiti, corrects grammar on public signs, and tries not to embarrass her husband and three kids. She longs for the days when she created crossword puzzles for the local paper, and tries to convert her therapist into a word person. Still, her life is in relative control because she wisely moved far away from her life’s nemesis, her sister—a flambouyant artist and her polar opposite. In this laugh-out-loud chick lit novel, Kate’s life turns upside down when the very sister she despises suddenly moves in with her. Jackie is broke (again), hauls “art supplies” in from the garbage dump, makes paper in the blender, and worst of all Wrangles her way into co-hosting the cooking show. Kate is furious, but the sisters’ on-air bickering only raises the ratings. Kate’s sense of family obligation and propriety keeps her from throwing Jackie out onto the street, but she makes lists of people she’d like to murder this afternoon, and Numbers One through Three are Jackie. Kate begins a desperate attempt to get Jackie married off and out of the house, but when Jackie’s antics finally cause Kate to lose her job, the stakes escalate. How on earth can these two sisters salvage such an impossible situation, and how can Kate avoid spending the rest of her life in a padded cell?

The cooking show was a hoot and I kept thinking this cannot last as it's too off the wall but the men involved, editors, producers seemed to think it was the greatest thing since sliced bread.When her sister Jackie moves in with Kate and her family, their not-so-good sister relationship heats up. I thought Kate might step up to the plate and move Jackie back out. Didn't happen. Instead Jackie moves into position as Kate's co host on her cooking show. The cooking show gets even wilder with both sisters on board. If you're looking for a wild ride with two sisters, this book just might be it.
I was intrigued by the author's use of words and word games for the character trait of the main character, Kate. It gave insight into Kate's psyche, her OCD ways, and gave me much to think about as a word lover myself. Well plotted, funny story.

Hard to read with all the OCD stuff but it was an easy read to pass the time.
I love my sister so the family stuff was a bit strange to me.
I adored this book. I laughed, cried, got frustrated and felt a true kinship with the main character. I told my whole family that it was just the perfect book for my personality!
Was not what I expected in line her other books but the language in this on was not one I would read with my kids
Only someone with a sister could get it this right. I cannot remember when I actually have laughed out loud as often. Nicely edited and I especially like wordplay, so even though it is a light read, it is a worthy book
If you like to cook and have a sense of humor this is a great read. The character has issues which are also amusing. This is one to just enjoy and not have to "think" about. I've already recommended it to some of my friends and family.
I have loved each Joni Hilton book I have read and this one held up to my expectations as well, even dysfunctional sisters come with hilarity, the book is a nice easy escape into someone else's insanity, learning that someone you think you will never get along with may know you better than you know yourself. Give yourself a break and read "Sisters in the Mix" which sister are you?
If you want a fun little book to clear your mind, read Sisters in the Mix. While it gives you some perspective on family relationships it is mostly just a fun book with light-hearted humor. It is engaging and a quick read and while I can't imagine a man wanting to read it, it might just be the tonic an overworked homemaker needs.
